Mandi Lynn

Mandi Lynn is an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant and Multi Award Winning Professional Photographer.  She was selected by the Ministry of Health to be the Lactation Consultant to advise on the development of New Zealand's Breastfeeding DVD.   Mandi is a resident of the Hutt Valley and has a Photographic Gallery and Private Lactation Consultancy practice in a shop in Petone called A'la Mode.  She also works from her photographic studio in the Akatarawa Valley in New Zealand.  Prior to working in private practice she worked with the Hutt Valley District Health Board to help it to move from breastfeeding rates that were averaging around 55% exclusive to 80% exclusive as she guided the hospital through the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative accreditation process.

Most importantly Mandi loves to teach.  She created the first Lactation Consultants Training Program in New Zealand but her absolute favourite class is the one she puts on for new parents.  It was initially developed during her time working for the Hutt Valley DHB.  She has refined the course over the years but the key points still remain and the feedback she receives indicates that the classes are really making a difference for new parents.

To learn more about Mandi feel free to check out the following links:

  • Listen to the interview on National Public Radio
  • Read a lovely article written by Sarah Hardie on Mandi’s serpentine path from her commission as a US Navy Nurse Corps officer to running a studio, cafe, farm, and new parent classes on her 26 Acre Farm in the Akatarawa Valley of New Zealand.
  • Enjoy the horrible photo (Sorry Andrew, but she going to slug you for sneaking this in next time she sees you) but very cool article (thank you Julie) about her work with new families in the Dominion Post.
  • Read The New Zealand Life and Leisure article about her farm and relationship with her best friends Nima and LacPhutti Sherpa and how they have together helped to create the paradise of the Blueberry Farm.

Feel free to watch this video made by the wwoofers (willing workers on organic farms) that share the farm with Mandi. It will give you a little taste of life in the Summer on the Blueberry Farm.
